Bat Calls at Ang Rue Nai     Bats, the
animal so many hate and fear, the strange and mysterious ghost bird,
vampire, pest and deadly carrier of disease, in the eyes of a group of
researchers working deep in the jungles of Ang Rue Nai were incredible
pollinators, insect killers and producers of guano, a great
fertilizer. Sarakadee visited Professor Sahra Bamrungsri, head of the
team, for a first hand look at the world's only flying mammal and the

          Temples and Their Civilization     Research
and renovation of Thailand's ancient sandstone temples have produced
tomes upon tomes of descriptions detailing their designs and
sculptures, influences from the Ramayana and Mahabharata,
architectural philosophy, legends, and related inscriptions. The
people who lived within their walls and prayed to their gods did not
seem of much importance. Here is an attempt to look at more life
within these stone remnants. Continue: click here

Children in Chiang Mai: From Mountaintops to Streetsides
A child we spoke to said if
homeless children like himself were sad, we would never see their
tears because the tears have poured down and dried out long ago since
when they were home. They slept on the street, under bridges, and in
deserted buildings but the whole of Chiang Mai was their home; and
they were free-as long as the cops stayed away. Kesorn Sithiniew tells
of several young lives who, according to all official documents and
legal records, do not exist. Continue: click here

harmony with nature. Opened on June 1, 2000, this five-month-long
cultural and technological fair promises all visitors everything from
